When the Last Forest Has Died

Voyageurs Unexpectedly an AOTY contender. This is my favorite release out of two stellar artists and has been on constant spin. I love the riffs, folk compositions, and I am a sucker for dungeon synth in my black metal. Between this and the new Wolves in the Throne Room, every other release has its work cut out for it. Favorite track: Winter Knelt Before the Doomed Tree.

amorphisgarden The guitars sound like barbed wire violently being dragged across concrete, the vocals like shrieking spirits deep in the dark woods, yet there’s mystical beauty and purity here. These guys know how to tell a story through music, in both the harsh and sensitive ways. You feel the pain of the forests along with the hope and everlasting survival of nature despite mans greed and abuse. Amazing album.

about

This is a collaborative album constructed by the minds behind Moulderyawn & Robes Of Snow. The initial idea for this album was to follow the concept of the very last forest dying and what The Green Wizard goes through trying to save it, but ultimately being unable to do so. When he cries up to the skies, Old man Winter descends with the snow.

And yet, Halfway through the writing of this album, Moulderyawn & Robes Of Snow came across a newfound inspiration. The events surrounding the Chernobyl Disaster (which initially took place on April 26th, 1986, in Ukraine) had shocking similarities to the story they were writing about. After what is considered to be the worst nuclear disaster in history, Natural life in the exclusion zone appears to be thriving, despite being under the smog of radiation. That threat of radiation which forces humans out of the zone seemingly acts as a sanctuary for this wildlife. And though a devastating and deadly incident took place, leaving the land barren and poisoned, life returned. This is a proud statement that in the end, even despite these horrific dangers man has made, nature will always prevail.
